About Christ By The Sea
Our History
The church was founded in 1965 and first held services in the homes of the 13 original members. Land for the church was acquired and the first phase of building was begun in 1966; Dr. Clifford Strang served as Pastor from 1965 to 1969. Rev. Arville Renner served as Pastor from 1969 to 1974. Rev. James Ratcliff served as Pastor from 1974 to 1983. During that period the Memorial Garden was built and the hall and sanctuary were expanded. Dr. John Few served as Pastor from 1983 to 1988; the stained glass windows were installed during that period. In 1988, Rev. James Ulmer became our Pastor and he served until 1990. Rev. John Harrington served as Pastor from 1990 to 1994. During that time a new parsonage and land for additional parking were purchased and the Endowment Fund was established. Dr. Richard Bingham served as Pastor from 1994 to 2002, and during that period the playground was refurbished and a building expansion program was completed which included air conditioning and Ratcliff Hall. Rev. Dawn Reichard served from 2002 to 2010. During her pastorate, an A/V booth with state of the art sound and computer equipment and a large screen projection system was added. A Welcome Center was also built and placed in the Narthex. A three-year strategic planning process has resulted in a clearer sense of direction with Outreach Ministries. A more contemporary (praise and worship) service was added to our Sunday morning schedule. Under the direction of Dr. Marcos Flores, Director of Worship Arts, we gained a community-wide reputation for our superior musical programs.
