Rev. Dr. Charles Whitford

Charlie and Ann Whitford grew up in New England and went to the same Methodist church when they were in grade school. Charlie “discovered” Ann when she was a senior in high school and they have been together ever since. Dr. Whitford is a retired United Methodist minister and a member of New England Conference. They live in Barefoot Bay.

After completing at college degree in American History and Culture at Boston University, he earned a graduate professional degree in ministry at the BU School of Theology. After a few years in pastoral ministry he returned to graduate school at Boston University and earned a masters and a doctorate in psychology. For several years he served as a counselor at the University of Massachusetts at Lowell and was a Marriage and Family Therapist for twenty years.

Dr. Whitford’s main emphasis has been in preaching and teaching in the local church and he has served churches in Massachusetts, Connecticut and New Hampshire, He served as visiting minister in the Midlands of England in 1983 and studied at the Ecumenical Institute in Tantur, Israel in 1985.

The Whitfords enjoy swimming, boating, travel and exploring Florida. They have two sons, David is a professor at United Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio and Todd is a Partner in the oldest continuing law firm in the United States in Hartford, Connecticut. The Whitfords have three grandchildren, a girl and two boys.

The Whitfords have become part of Christ by the Sea because of the church’s vibrant worship, commitment to adult education and the world mission of Christ’s Church.
